5 Advantages of Having Water Plants in Your Pond Or Aquarium

Many people have plastic water plants in their fishponds and are quite satisfied with it, not realizing the many things that they are missing out on. In this article, I will tell you about five of the major benefits that comes with having living water plants in your pond or aquarium. You may already know some of them, but I'll be surprised if you knew all of them.

1) They add oxygen to your pond/ aquarium that is vital for the health and survival of the life in an aquatic environment. As you probably know, oxygen is vital even for fish and water does not contain as high a percentage as the air. This often leads to there been a lack of oxygen in many ponds, which is detrimental to your ponds' life health. A simple way to solve this problem is to have oxygenating water plants growing in your pond or aquarium to release oxygen back into the water and replenish the levels of it.
2) They provide a natural environment and hiding places for your pond fish to successfully breed and grow. Shade, hiding places between leaves in the wild, most species of fish will seek the refuge of underwater plants to lay their eggs/ give birth as it provides many hiding spots in-between the leaves and stems for the newborn fry to take cover. Also, because of the shade under most type of water plants, the water immediately below it will be slightly cooler which will make for better breeding conditions of your aquarium fish
3) They providing a moneymaking opportunity in the form of selling the trimmings to local pet stores. Since most species of water plants grow so fast, you can often make a quick buck by trimming the stems and selling them as new plant shoots. Many pet stores will be glad to purchase them from you if you offer a discount price to them. You have an even better chance of selling, if you speak to a pet storeowner that you purchase all of your pond supplies from. If they don't want to pay cash for your plants then they may offer you an exchange; your plants for more fish or fish food etc.
4) They add beauty to your pond/ aquarium thanks to the wide variety of leaf colors that they come in. It's a known fact, water plants add a touch of serenity to your pond or aquarium. Unlike many people think, they come with leaves in a variety of colors and not just green. Some of the other common colors are purple, and light yellow, and red. This is really attractive and will definitely make your friends envy you!
5)Water plants will not only add style to your pond or aquarium, but they are also very important to ensuring that all of the other animals in the pond are healthy. They are cheap to purchase and come in a myriad of colors and sizes. Each of them has their own benefits and purposes towards aquatic life, but all of them are a great addition to your pond.

It might be dog food allergies if your dog is always scratching!

It might come as a bit of a surprise but more and more dogs are developing food allergies. While the exact cause of this is still unknown to us, we do know that there is a very valid connection with the ingredients of the dog foods they have ingested. No one would like to deal with dog food allergies and hopefully you won’t have to. It can be quite an ordeal. As an example, a six-month old black Lab named Bobby which belongs to my neighbor could not refrain from scratching. Bobby was eventually taken to see the vet so he can be evaluated and treated for his itching. Bobby’s owners were not aware about food allergies. They presumed that a skin disorder was causing the itching. They were surprised to learn about the real cause. The vet told them that Bobby had dog food allergies. That’s right, at the young age of six months! They were also told that Labs are right among the breeds that are susceptible to dog food allergies. The veterinarian explained that certain dog breed...

Cat Health Problems

Cat Sneezing: If your cat is sneezing often it may not be a serious problem.  Cats can be allergic to many household chemicals and detergents just like humans, and a simple visit to your veterinarian is the best way to diagnose and hopefully solve the problem.  Continuous sneezing can indicate a sign of an upper respiratory infection however so it should be always be checked out by your vet.  Fortunately  cat sneezing  is usually not a serious problem but should be monitored and looked into if it is happening too often. Vaccinations: You cam prevent many  Cat Health Problems  by getting your pet vaccinated. Getting your cat a vaccination will provide protection against many potentially fatal diseases and infections. Influenza (cat flu), feline enteritis are common problems that can be eliminated by getting your cat vaccinated while it is still a kitten. They should get the first injection when they are about eight or nine weeks old, and the sec...

A Beginner’s Guide to Hamster Care

A small pet such as a hamster often make great choices for kids, but along with the fun comes the responsibility of hamster care .  To be a responsible pet owner, kids should be trained in all aspects of the care for their new pet. Hamsters are considered to be a pet that is easily kept.   Cute, small, furry and active, all features that appeal to children.   The hamster is a rodent that originated from the country of Syria.   The name “hamster” is derived from the German word hamstern, or “to hoard”, which is exactly what the hamster is known to do.   Their furry cheeks, seemingly small, expand greatly to accommodate the storage of food.   Bodies that range between 2 and 6 inches in length, with short, stubby legs and little ears are characteristic of the hamster, as is its silky coat of fur. There are many different varieties of the hamster, although a few certain breeds emerge as the most popular to be kept as pets.   The Teddy Bear hams...
